Kicking Off w/ Waffles and Worship

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this month's ministry update! This has been a month of preparation and August will be a week of action so I'm enjoying these next few days as the calm before the storm!

Welcome week

The SMU team has been spending a large chunk of July preparing for the first couple weeks of the semester which we call Welcome Week. Here are a few of the new events we're planning!

Waffleopolis is an idea we took from UTA! I remember this being one of the most loved traditions the university held and we're gonna try our hand at it! Basically just hundreds of waffles for college students to gorge themselves on as our student leaders build friendships with them lol
Fun fact, I generated this image using AI!

"Coffee House" was one of our most successful events the past couple years and this year we're bundling it into our first worship night of the year so that hopefully a lot of students catch a taste of our love for Jesus!

Last year we impromptu set up a volleyball net in front of a few dorms and invited students to come play. It ended up being our most well-attended welcome week event! So this year we're doing it 4 times in front of different dorms across campus.

Back to School

Best of luck to our teachers who are getting ready to start the new school year with their kids! Erin just finished setting up her classroom in Garland. She'll be teaching Resource this year, which will specifically be small groups of Special Ed students K-2! She's stoked and can't stop talking about how excited she is to meet her new kids next week.

Would you be able to tell that most of her wardrobe is black & grey?

We're gearing up for big things this month! August & early September are like Super Bowl month for campus ministers. Can't wait to update y'all next month with the ways we've gotten to watch God work in the lives of these college students he's preparing us to meet.

Thank you so much for your support! I wouldn't be able to do this full-time and with as much confidence if I didn't have such an incredible team backing me up. Keep praying that these lost & lonely college students will find life in community and ultimately in Jesus!

Your brother,
Taylor

Ministry in the Mountains!

To all my friends working in schools, happy summer! Erin just had her last day at the elementary school this past Friday, and I know she certainly needs a break. Even though our semester ended a few weeks ago, God's still been moving in our community! We had our annual student leadership / campus ministry conference (SICM) and our 4 SMU students Miles, Jessica, Michelle, and Ruth, had an extremely meaningful time. I've got lots of pics to share from it!  Mustangs in Washington! Jessica, Miles, myself, Michelle, Ruth! Chinese food! Glamor shot SICM completion certificates! Beautiful sunset view from WWU All 120 SICM students & staff prayed over our SMU team for the coming school year. Very meaningful! Adventure! The Freemont Troll Rattlesnake Ledge Trail (5 mile hike!) Not pictured: Me almost throwing up 4x from the climb Our host, Bob! He housed Miles and me all week, fed us, and took us to the mountains between Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker! We had a great time getting to know

Welcome Charli to the Family!

Hi everyone! I hope you've been enjoying your air conditioners this month. Ours went out the other day and the indoor temp got up to 90 degrees before our mechanic was able to fix it up. 🥵  Makes me praise God for the blessings we take for granted. Renting a house! Erin and I have had a couple of life changes this month! First of all, we moved into a house in Garland! We can't wait to have lots of guests. We've gotten to start that in the last couple weeks with our aunt & uncle (shoutout Brenda & Jeff, who read these updates!) and some good friends in our church (shoutout to Josh & Mandi who also read these!). We're so excited for this to become a space where friends, family, students, and all kinds of people feel welcome and experience God's goodness through friendship. Praise God for community! Got to warm the house with some SMU guys! If you're a nerd like us and want to know the boardgame, it's called Zombicide. 10/10 recommend. Meet Charli!

Post-Operative Ministry

Hi everyone! I hope you're enjoying the start of the holiday season! I know it's been especially sweet so far for my Rangers fans. 👀  I've got my fingers crossed for tonight!! (No shade to my Astros and Arizona friends) Surgery & Recovery  Speaking of the Rangers, I myself have also been out with injury. I had a procedure done a few weeks ago that was meant to be a 1-week recovery but has turned into a 3.5-week recovery. God is good though! He's brought Erin and me a lot of comfort during the difficult moments through friends and family members coming and spending time with us, and even buying us meals and cleaning our home! We are very grateful for the people the Lord has blessed us with over the years. Enjoy some post-op anesthesia Ministry, naturally, has looked very different this month but by God's grace, I've still gotten to keep up my regular meetings with students over the phone, and they streamed me in to our small group via FaceTime. It's felt
