South Africa to SMU

Happy October! The past month has been so great. In August, we spread the net wide, trying to invite as many students into community as possible. Now, in September, we're getting back to our bread-and-butter which is building deep individual relationships with one another, and experiencing God together through those relationships. Bear with me, I have fewer pictures and more words this month because there's just so much to share! (Also I've been forgetful when it comes to taking pictures haha) I hope you find this month's update to be a blessing to you, amidst the requirement of a longer attention span. Inzwi This is my friend Inzwi! He's from South Africa and transferred to SMU this semester as a Junior. He's a crazy good soccer player and is planning to try out for the NCAA team here next year! He decided around a year ago that he'd like to more seriously consider God try to understand him better. He and I have recently gotten to start studying the Bible t...

Momentum is Growing!

Happy September! Hopefully the hottest days are behind us. I hope you enjoyed the sun and are as excited for cooler temps as I am! Welcome Week SMU's Welcome Week has also been coming in hot! We just finished and have been in full overdrive mode. We've met hundreds of students and are now in the stage of inviting them into deeper relationships! Here are a ton of pics! Hopefully they'll give you a taste of what God's been doing on campus the last couple weeks. Waffleopolis was a complete hit! First worship night! Every seat was packed in! Charli out here doing the Lord's work A couple of our student leaders cooling off! SMU should pay us for this pic This one too Not this one Core New year, new core! If you're also new here, Core is what we call our small groups in Focus!  We had a wonderful turnout. From left to right we have Jonathan, Ethan, Craig, myself, Antonio, Victor, Nicolas, and Quinn! 4 of those who came were freshmen! Can't wait to see how the next...

Kicking Off w/ Waffles and Worship

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this month's ministry update! This has been a month of preparation and August will be a week of action so I'm enjoying these next few days as the calm before the storm! Welcome week The SMU team has been spending a large chunk of July preparing for the first couple weeks of the semester which we call Welcome Week. Here are a few of the new events we're planning! Waffleopolis is an idea we took from UTA! I remember this being one of the most loved traditions the university held and we're gonna try our hand at it! Basically just hundreds of waffles for college students to gorge themselves on as our student leaders build friendships with them lol Fun fact, I generated this image using AI! "Coffee House" was one of our most successful events the past couple years and this year we're bundling it into our first worship night of the year so that hopefully a lot of students catch a taste of our love for Jesus! Las...

Welcome Charli to the Family!

Hi everyone! I hope you've been enjoying your air conditioners this month. Ours went out the other day and the indoor temp got up to 90 degrees before our mechanic was able to fix it up. 🥵  Makes me praise God for the blessings we take for granted. Renting a house! Erin and I have had a couple of life changes this month! First of all, we moved into a house in Garland! We can't wait to have lots of guests. We've gotten to start that in the last couple weeks with our aunt & uncle (shoutout Brenda & Jeff, who read these updates!) and some good friends in our church (shoutout to Josh & Mandi who also read these!). We're so excited for this to become a space where friends, family, students, and all kinds of people feel welcome and experience God's goodness through friendship. Praise God for community! Got to warm the house with some SMU guys! If you're a nerd like us and want to know the boardgame, it's called Zombicide. 10/10 recommend. Meet Charli!...

Ministry in the Mountains!

To all my friends working in schools, happy summer! Erin just had her last day at the elementary school this past Friday, and I know she certainly needs a break. Even though our semester ended a few weeks ago, God's still been moving in our community! We had our annual student leadership / campus ministry conference (SICM) and our 4 SMU students Miles, Jessica, Michelle, and Ruth, had an extremely meaningful time. I've got lots of pics to share from it!  Mustangs in Washington! Jessica, Miles, myself, Michelle, Ruth! Chinese food! Glamor shot SICM completion certificates! Beautiful sunset view from WWU All 120 SICM students & staff prayed over our SMU team for the coming school year. Very meaningful! Adventure! The Freemont Troll Rattlesnake Ledge Trail (5 mile hike!) Not pictured: Me almost throwing up 4x from the climb Our host, Bob! He housed Miles and me all week, fed us, and took us to the mountains between Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker! We had a great time getting to know...
